LivemarkMarkdown documentation sites
What it is
A documentation site generator. It turns a directory of Markdown files into a fast static site — syntax highlighting through Shiki, diagrams through Mermaid, interactive components through MDX, and a blog and changelog that work without extra configuration.
Why it exists
Documentation tooling tends to arrive in two sizes: too small to grow into, or a framework that wants to own your whole project. Livemark stays in the middle — Markdown in, a site out, with the escape hatches available when a page genuinely needs to do something unusual. The output is static, so there is no server to operate and it can be hosted anywhere that serves files.
Our part in it
We maintain it, and we use it. Several of the projects listed here document themselves with it, which is a reliable way to find out where the rough edges are.
What we build it on
Server-rendered React with typed routing and data loading in one project, not two.
Tokens, primitives and accessible behaviour, so the tenth screen looks like the first.
Static and server-rendered sites running close to the user, and cheap to keep up.
One toolchain across every repository, so moving between them costs nothing.
