What it is

The shared vocabulary of an interface — colour and spacing tokens, typography, and a set of primitives with keyboard and screen-reader behaviour already handled.

Why we chose it

Tailwind holds the tokens as CSS custom properties, so a theme is data rather than a rebuild, and light and dark are the same components. Base UI supplies unstyled, accessible primitives — menus, dialogs, comboboxes — that we style ourselves, which is the right split: behaviour is hard and generic, appearance is easy and specific. Contrast is not left to taste; on this site every foreground and background pairing is asserted against WCAG AA by a unit test, in both themes, so a colour change that breaks legibility fails the build.
