What it is
A TypeScript task runner. Export a function from a task file and it becomes a command, with its parameters as flags and its types as validation — no registration step, no configuration object, and no separate schema to keep in sync with the implementation.
Why it exists
Every project accumulates scripts. They start in package.json, outgrow a single line, move into a scripts directory, and become an undocumented pile that only the person who wrote them can run. Uptask exists so that the function already written is the command, and its signature is the documentation.
Our part in it
We maintain it. It came out of wanting the same thing in enough of our own repos that writing it once was cheaper than reinventing it each time.
What we build it on
Static and server-rendered sites running close to the user, and cheap to keep up.
Fast unit tests, recorded HTTP, and documentation that fails the build when it goes stale.
One toolchain across every repository, so moving between them costs nothing.
